Dear Department Chairs:

The Graduate School at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites your juniors and seniors to its 17th Annual Graduate School Preview Day on Thursday, October 11, 2012.  Preview Day will be held on campus in the Colony Ballroom of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to interact with representatives of our outstanding graduate programs here at the University of Maryland. They will also learn about the processes for applying to graduate schools and financing their graduate education. In addition, they will hear from current University of Maryland students about success strategies for graduate studies. Here is a summary of what promises to be an informative program:

8:30 a.m.         Registration and Continental Breakfast
9:00 a.m.         Welcome and Opening Remarks
Robert E. Steele, Director, Office for Diversity Initiatives
                        Remarks
Charles Caramello, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School
9:15 a.m.         "Preparing a Competitive Graduate School Application and Financing Your Education"  Donald Asher, CEO of Asher Associates and author of Graduate Admissions Essays
11:00 a.m.       College Information Session: Meet UM Graduate Program Representatives
12:30 p.m.       Luncheon and Graduate Student Panel
1:30 p.m.         Networking Session
2:00 p.m.         University of Maryland Research Center, Laboratory, and Campus Tours

As the director of the new Graduate School Office for Diversity Initiatives, I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and your students. It is my hope to build relationships with and provide support to your students who are interested in pursuing a master's or doctoral degree. Please circulate this information to your undergraduates who are juniors and seniors. The official event website and link for registration can be found at www.gradschool.umd.edu/PreviewDay2012.html<file:///C:\Users\sthomas1\AppData\Local\Temp\www.gradschool.umd.edu\PreviewDay2012.html>.  The deadline for priority registration is Tuesday, September 25, 2012. To ensure the best chance of meeting representatives from their program(s) of interest, students must register by this priority deadline.

If you have any questions, please call us at 1-800-245-GRAD or e-mail us at grad-recruitment@umd.edu<mailto:grad-recruitment@umd.edu>. We look forward to your participation!
