Zone 4 Meeting Tomorrow!

Dear All,

Tomorrow, Friday, April 25, 2013, the department will host the Zone 4 meeting, a two-day event which brings students from all over the Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. area to present their research.

Tomorrow night, we will kick off the event with a lecture from Gary White and planetarium show by Dr. Storrs. Pizza and soda will be served.

On Saturday, we will have several talks and a poster presentation. If you have a poster and would like to show it off ( ...and why wouldn't you?), we have plenty of room to hang it up. If you can't be here to present, that is okay; we will still showcase your research.

Hi David,

My name is Sara Liebert and I work for SPIE – The International Society for Optics and Photonics. We will be holding a Job Fair at our annual Defense, Security + Sensing Exhibition and Conference and I am contacting you to see if you would notify your students of our upcoming event. The Defense, Security + Sensing 2013 Job Fair will be held at The Baltimore Convention Center, April 30th and May 1st from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Top employers in the scientific community will be recruiting, screening, and hiring candidates. We are anticipating nearly 20 companies to exhibit in the Job Fair and this is a great way for your students to meet face to face with employers in the industry.

If possible, I would like to send you a flyer of the Job Fair to display in your Physics and Astronomy Department where it would get exposure to applicable students. If you are interested, please send me your department mailing address and I will send materials your way. Please visit our website for more information about SPIE and the DSS Job Fair: www.spie.org/DSSjobfair

You are cordially invited for an evening reception and public lecture

[Phil Schewe discusses his new book, Maverick Genius: The Pioneering Odyssey of Freeman Dyson on April 25, 2013, from 6:00-8:00pm at the American Institute of Physics]<http://maestro.aip.org/trk/click?ref=zstq4sfk3_0-b14x3248bx1David+Schaefer&>

For decades, Freeman Dyson has been regarded as one of the world's most important thinkers. The Atlantic wrote, "In the range of his genius, Freeman Dyson is heir to Einstein - a visionary who has reshaped thinking in fields from math to astrophysics to medicine, and who has conceived nuclear-propelled spaceships designed to transport human colonists to distance planets." Salon.com says that, "what sets Dyson apart among an elite group of scientists is the conscience and compassion he brings to his work." Now, in this first complete biography of Dyson, author Phillip F. Schewe examines the life of a man whose accomplishments have shaped our world in many ways.

Reception followed by public lecture.
