PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

 

T. Rowe Price's Investment Fellowship Program offers college undergraduate students within mathematics, engineering, and the sciences a challenging opportunity in the financial industry. Under this program fellows will receive training and experience in investment tasks (i.e., quantitative research and analysis, trading research and analysis, and decision and research support). Fellows accepted into this program will have direct "hands-on" involvement within the TRP investment organization.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Rotate approximately every 6 months for up to 2 years across the following TRP Business Units

*Trading / Portfolio Modeling (Equity and Fixed Income)

*Quantitative Research - Equity , Fixed Income, Asset Allocation , Retirement Income

Hello everyone,

We would like to invite everyone to take part in SPS (Society of Physics Students) this semester and the upcoming semester in the spring. We are planning a lot of events for this year and if you would like to know more come to the SPS lounge in Smith Hall room 415; our general meetings are every other Friday at 11:00 AM starting next Friday the 21st. We have a special event for all new and returning students next week Thursday the 20th at 7:00 PM in Smith Hall room 400. There will be food, movies, and games for all to enjoy. Subject: Updates from recent SPS meetings

Hey everyone,

 

Hope you have been enjoying some much deserved time off and are ready to get back to work next week.  SPS will be rather busy for the remainder of the semester as it plans to attend and hold several events. Hopefully, all of you make plans to attend these events.

 

The coming events are:

 

The first and nearest event is the Science against Cancer Relay for Life that benefits the American Cancer Society. Teams camp overnight in the Towson Center and take turns walking around the indoor track to raise money and cancer awareness. Other STEM groups have asked us to attend this event recently and I'm sure some people are available to attend. I know many of us have or have had family and friends suffer from cancer. Anyone interested in going should either put their name on the SPS whiteboard or send me an email to mdevan2@students.towson.edu. A small donation is typically given, however if enough people would like to go, SPS will make a split the contribution with you. This event will take place April 20th at 7 PM at the Towson Center. Also on April 20th, is a Physics day at Six Flags America in Laurel. SPS National is asking for volunteers for their varous demonstrations set up in the amusement park. Those that register to help out will receive a free t-shirt, lunch, and free afternoon rides at the park. Those interested in going should take a look at http://www.spsnational.org/programs/sixflags/ for more information.

 

The following weekend, April 28th and 29th, the SPS will be going to DC to attend the USA Science and Engineering Festival. This is huge gathering of scientific and engineering graduate programs and companies as well as national labs.  Almost every subsection of physics and science in general is represented here. Last year, the SPS went and a great time was had by all.  Hopefully everyone makes plans to attend this event as it could be where you land your next internship, job, or in at graduate school.  The event runs from 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturday April 28th. We will meet up at the top of the Union Garage at 8:30 AM and travel to DC together. There is also a session on Sunday April 29th, which we may or may not attend depending on interest. This is definitely a worthwhile event to attend; we hope that all of you plan on attending at least Saturday, April 28th.

 

Though no date has been determined yet, the SPS is planning on hosting a Science cafe sometime this semester. We are open to any and all help with this event. Jack Mitchum was generous enough to provide the names and contact info for several speakers. We are still in need of a hosting site, an appropriate date and most of all INTEREST!  We will advertise to all on Campus, but we will like to see members at this event, considering you guys will get the most out of this informal science discussion. More details will be announced as they are known.

 

And lastly, there has been mention that Hampton University will host this year's Zone 4 meeting. If this is confirmed to be true, then SPS will be attending. The information for this event will be given to us at late notice, so we do anticipate many will have made other plans for the weekend of the Zone 4 meeting.  However, as with the USA Science and Engineering Festival, this is an event you don't want to miss, especially if you are in need of an idea for a capstone project. Some of the research presented might spark your imagination.  More details will follow when they are known.

As always, regular meetings are held every other Tuesday at 11 AM in the SPS Lounge. The next meeting is Tuesday, March 27th at 11 AM. Plan on attending, especially if you have questions or concerns about upcoming events or if you would like to suggest another event.

SPS Club T-Shirt

Hey everyone,

This is a heads up that we are taking orders for a club t-shirt which will cost $8.00.  There's a sign an order sheet on the whiteboard in the SPS Lounge or email the size and quantity that you want to me at dmorga1@students.towson.edu.  Make sure you place your order by Tuesday, May 11.  Sorry for the short timeframe, but we wanted to make sure that we get the shirts by the end of the semester.  A mockup of the shirt is attached.

Also, we're planning one last SPS trip to the Science Center in Baltimore on May 19th to see Hubble 3D.  The schedule isn't out yet for that week, but the showtime is generally 2:20.  We'll send another email out when the time is definite.
